Some of the colours remain, but perform a different function which could pose a danger..........
New fixed wiring colours have been introduced to harmonize with Europe. Beware that some of the colours remain but perform a different function, which could pose danger.
The colours of brown, black and grey for the phase conductors and blue for the neutral conductor replace the traditional colours of red, yellow and blue for the phase conductors and black for the neutral conductor. Protective conductors remain green and yellow.
From 01.04.06 all installations must be in the new colours. From 31.03.04 onwards, new installations should not be commenced with a mix of both old and new colours, however, additions to existing installations, pre 31.03.04, may be in the new colours. Therefore, at the wiring interface where the new colours meet the old colours, unambiguous identification is required and a warning notice must be affixed at or near the appropriate distribution board or consumer unit.
