Massive energy and cost savings with LED technology…..
Light emitting diodes have been around for years but recent advances suggest that LED’s can last for up to 100,000 hours compared with the 1,000 hours of traditional incandescent light bulbs and compact fluorescent lamps at 15,000 hours. The potential for reducing electricity demand in office, warehouse and factory environments where lighting can be left on for 24 hours per day is very high and improvements in light quality at the components and system level mean that lumens can be controlled and shaped so that more light can be placed on target.
Whilst LED lighting is more expensive than traditional lamps, the benfits are higher candella per lumens, smaller lighting systems, lower system costs and much longer lifespans. This makes LED more economically attractive because even though the fittings cost more the running and maintenance bills are lower. LED’s in general lighting applications represent an incredible opportunity for technological advancement through the next decade.
